Journalism

I have written hundreds of articles, including profiles, features, news stories and more. Here are some of my favourites:

I wrote this cover story for the Walrus magazine on the history of Catholic hospitals in Canada, and how religious ethics and health care access collide. It was nominated for a 2023 National Magazine Award.

I was a finalist for the Canadian Journalism Foundation’s prestigious Landsberg Award for my reporting for the Globe and Mail on gender discrimination at two emergency departments. This story is ongoing.

This profile of Dr. Alika Lafontaine was shortlisted for the National Magazine Awards B2B best profile category. I also cherish the opportunities I’ve had to meet many other medical movers and shakers (including Drs. Jennifer Gunter, Andrew Kolodny, and H. Gilbert Welch), artist Edward Burtynsky, and climate scientist Dr. Katharine Hayhoe.

My reporting on why an increasing number of medical graduates don’t get matched to residency programs, for University Affairs, received a National Magazine B2B Award for best series.

This article on the psychological impact of medical mistakes on health workers won a Registered Nurses of Ontario media award. I wrote this story for Healthy Debate, where I spent two years as a writer and opinions editor.
